Here is a question to the ones who have been at SD shows recently and frequently over the last years..

Did their overall live sound change?
I get the impression they play with less distorted guitars now.
When I compared Live in Orange County (2003) and Live at the Roxy (1997) I noticed that.

Or is just the production/mix of the DVD?

Mike still uses the same stuff...Two Bags uses the same head (Marshall JMP) that Dennis did...which has a lot cleaner gain, but Two Bags is mic'd louder than Dennis ever was...and Two Bags uses more open chords compared to Dennis who used basically all power chords. So the guitars sound cleaner, totally. And of course the live sound changed alot with Charlie drumming now instead of Chuck...Charlie is a lot steadier of a drummer and not as crazy and stylish as Chuck, but Charlie still sounds great...my favorite Social D drummer thus far. So yes, live sound has changed a lot.

And it probably changes again with Matt Freeman on bass.

To me, the biggest change has been the addition of the B-3. I last saw them for the first time with the Hammond in January. I didn't notice it as much with the new songs but hearing it with the old ones may take some getting used to.

gotta admit, i'm not a big fan of the organ with SD. i like some oldies songs that have the organ, but i don't really like the way it fits in with SD's sound. i wonder how prevalent it is on the new album...i'm sure the album will be great either way though.

i've always really liked mike's guitar tone though...bassmans and P-90's sound great together. and although the gear hasn't changed for a while, i think whoever said he's been using less gain lately may be right. its kind of hard to tell - the recording process in general seems to exagerate the amount of distortion...but it still seems like he was using a bit more for "live at the roxy" compared to when you see them now...just my two cents of course...

for me, personally...the B-3 Organ is one of my favorite instruments out there...so I was stoked when Social D made the addition...I'm one of the guys hoping that you can REALLY hear it on the record

Cann u explain what B3-Organ is, I have been listening to SD for many years, but am not all that up to date on music talk in general. I take it, its the new sound I am hearing in the new album, how is it played? thru guitar? it reminds me of nofx or some shit. Tho the new soungs kick ass, it dont seem social distortion to me. I think they had a unique sound before, now they are seems liek trying to be like everone else? wtf? it don't seperate them from the pack no more in my opinion, but like I said, I still like it, so I kinda have mixed emotions right now on it.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial">That was the exact same feeling I had when I heard SLARnR the first time, for some reason Reach For the Sky reminded me of Bad Religion, I Wasnt born to follow, nickels and dimes and don't take me for granted are just the usual punk rock stuff you get from a lot of epitaph bands (IMO).

I think it lacks a bit this rock'n'roll spirit of the recent albums.
